Wonder of Science

The history of human civilizations is a record of achievements of science among many other things. Wherever and what ever we see, we see the success of science or wonders of science. Life today is governed and conditioned by the product of science and it is very different to imagine existence without them. Different inventions and discoveries have brought about a revolution in the world in various fields.
In the field of transport and communication, the achievements of science have broken down the barriers and have reduced the world in size. With the invention of railways, motor cars, ships, airplanes etc. man has been the master of land, sea, air etc. The telegraphs, telephone, radio, televisions etc have made communication so easy. These have enabled us to feel that the people living in the remotest corner of the world are our next-door neighbors.
Similarly, science has also given us comfort in our day to day life. Electric lights and fans, air-conditioned rooms, refrigerators, motor cars etc. have given us great comforts which are one of the marvelous creations of science. Radio, television, cinema etc. have increased our recreational facilities. Likewise, in the matter of cooling, ironing, hairdressing, washing, cleaning etc. the contribution of science has brought great comfort and convenience to human beings.
Science has wonderful achievements in the medical sector too. For the prevention of diseases, science has invented various preventive medicines against diseases. Beyond this, it has restored eyes to the blind, hearing to the deaf and legs to the lame. Science has also great  achievements in increasing the material wealth and prosperity. It has given great aid to the development of agriculture and industries. Different methods and techniques have been developed so as to increase the production in fields and industries. It has given great contribution in creating irrigation facilities and generating electricity. It has helped human to convert dreary deserts into smiling cornfields. Different minerals and oils have been extracted from the Earth because of science.
The wonders of science cannot be denied in increasing the mental or intellectual development. The printing press, one of the wonderful inventions of science, has printed different books, newspapers and other printed matters. These have spread the light of knowledge and education far and wide. This has enabled to remove superstitions and prejudices. Similarly; Science has played vital role in the establishment of 'Brotherhood of Man' by making possible closure between man and man, and between nation and nation. Apart from this, science has played great role in understanding the universe and the journey to space with the development of rocket. It is because of science man has been able to step down on the moon.
Apart from wonders of science, many mighty and dangerous instruments have been invented by science for the destruction of mankind's. The economic and social evils of industrialization are also some evils of science.
To sum up, the achievements of science should be utilized for the good of humanity also with the development of peace and prosperity. They can be the blessing if they are used properly if not they will prove to be a real curse.

Slow and steady wins the race.

The meaning that the proverb is trying to convey s nothing can't be done at once. Success can be achieved in the life if the work is done slowly without any intervals. A man who works slowly and steadily can win the race. We should not try to do any work hurriedly. We should keep in mind that haste is waste. As the patience and perseverance are rewarded at last, we have to work carefully and patiently. We should be patient and bold to face the barriers on the way to destination. If we continue in our efforts, it is almost sure that we can definitely overcome barriers and get success.
The proverb can be illustrated by the story of "The Hare and the Tortoise". A hare was proud of his speed. He challenged a tortoise to a race. The hare ran fast. He rested on the way and feel asleep. On the other hand, the tortoise ran slowly and steadily and reached the post first. The hare woke up and ran quickly. But it was too late. The tortoise defeated him as it ran steadily. The hare was defeated because it did not run steadily.
Thus, this proverb teaches us to do our work slowly and steadily. Steadiness leads us  to success. So to achieve success. So to achieve success in life we need to do our work slowly and steadily.

All that glitters is not gold

Gold is bright yellow shining metal. There are many shining metals in the world. But they are not actually gold. The meaning of this proverb is that appearances are often deceptive or illusive. And things are not as what they look. It is difficult to judge things merely by its outward appearance.

This proverb aware us to be cautious in dealing with men or things. A man who is finely dressed and looks like a perfect gentleman can be a cheat. A man who is ugly in appearance may possess good quality. People who speak politely and pretend to be good mannered can deceive finally. We make friends with persons who seem to be sincere one, but they turn out to be false friends and ruin us. The real quality of person is hidden inside. We should always keep in mind that things are not always what they seem.

Example is better than percept

There are different people in society who try to impress others by words than deeds. Only giving suggestion has little importance. It is essential to convert the instructions into practice. We may talk of many noble qualities and suggest others to acquire those qualities. It may have less effect or even it may not have. But, if we have those qualities, our advice can be more effective. This proverb is warning to those who talk much but do little.

In our country, there are many people who give long speeches against corruption and misdeeds. For example, let us take example of politicians. They give speech against corruption but they themselves are involved in it. They inspire people to sacrifice their lives for the good of country. Their speech may produce some effect but that does not last long. If they themselves do what they preach, other will also follow them. So seeing is importance that hearing. There are some teachers who smoke and advise their pupils not to smoke. The pupils do not follow their advice.

We believe in action not in words. The suggestions have no value if they are not converted into practice. The great man like Buddha did what he preached. So people have faith in his preaching. Thus, this proverb aware us that doing is much more important than talking.

Charity begins at home.

The meaning that the proverb is trying to convey is that if we want to help others, we should first help our friends and relatives. We have brought up by our relatives who are our near and dear ones. Our friends and relatives have played the vital role to bring us up. So it is our first and foremost duty to help them first.
After helping our near and dear ones, then only priority is to be given to our neighbours and villagers whom we know them. Then whom should we help, we even don’t know. There are many cases in which people do not care of their relatives but move forward to help others. If we don’t have the feeling of our own people, how can we sincerely feel others? Here, sincerity is just only a merely show. There are people who are ready to help others just in a name of gaining fame. This is really a selfish help. Such type of charity can’t be truly called charity. This is only showing habit. So if we want to help others, we should be motivated to help our friends and relatives at first. Then only we should think of others.

Science and Religion

Science is the branch of knowledge that deals with the mysteries of universe. Religion is the reaction of human nature to its search of God. It includes faith in the existence of Supreme Beings.

Before the influence of science, religion had complete influence over the mind and heart of human beings. In the course of time it had also enabled to develop superstition and blind faith. Religion is based on faith whereas science is based on facts. Religion faith cannot be revised and nobody can question them.

It has been realized that the ultimate objective of both science and religion is to find out the ultimate truth even if they are completely different disciplines. Man seeks the truth of outer world of senses through physical science, and man who puts faith on science follows the path of observation, experiment and proof. Similarly, the man who puts faith on religion follows path of faith, intuition and experience. Science seeks self-expression and self fulfillment through external power and the religion through internal peace and joy.

However, the question that arises is whether acceptance of science and rejection of religion or vice versa will be leading to the good of humanity. For this point, some opine that science is capable of giving the world's good and the pleasures of life in abundant manner that there is no need of religion. Some others think that the highest purpose of man's life is the realization of God and therefore religion is the key to that realization. This cannot be brought by any means. This contradiction can be dealt with several examples. Religion tells us about God, norms of human behavior, life and death. Religion never teaches about hatred, spread idea of killing others. On the other hand science has discovered new things like medicines for saving life. It has also discovered weapons to fight against others.

However, we need to take stand in the need of both science and religion. W e need to develop the concept that religion is the science in ancient days and science is the religion in present days. Beyond this, we need science to satisfy materialistic and intellectual knowledge; similarly we need religion to satisfy our soul. W e also needs to know that even some religious customs are also based on scientific principles. Anyway, we need to be aware that science and religion both are equally important.

Thus, science and religion are the parts of human life. We should be guided by both science and religion. This is because science develops reasons and religion develops faith. Reasons and faith are very much essential in our daily life.
