Capital punishment

Capital punishment is the killing of a criminal for a crime that he has committed. Previously most countries employed this method of punishment but nowadays it is less widely used. Whether capital punishment as a penal provision should remain or go is a question which comes up for discussion from time to time in many countries.

Some people consider this form of punishment is considered to be barbarism. They think that one does not have the right to kill another human being regardless of the crime. Moreover, it is not supportable on moral and religious grounds. To reed is too human and both the judge and jury being humans are prone to make mistakes. But once the death penalty is executed, the mistake cannot be rectified. It is not good to believe in old religious maxims of eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Modern Societies should not turn to such barbaric punishment.

Some people opine that capital punishment can help to stop those who are inclined to commit murders. The fear of death is the worst fear that can assail the human mind and therefore, Capital punishment is an effective check on the people who try to do crime of murder. The removal of capital punishment will remove the fear of death and, as a result, murders will multiply endangering the peace and safety of society.

Even though there are different arguments, broadly speaking, capital punishment is against the human right to live. People can be released if later proved not to be guilty. If he is dead, there is nothing that can be proved innocent later and released. If they had been executed, innocent people would have died.

There can be alternative punishment available. For bad crimes, Prison life sentences can be given with criminals imprisoned for the rest of their lives. A lot of horrific crimes are committed by people who are mentally sick. These people are not responsible for their action and can be kept safely and permanently in secure hospitals. Even though, it cost a lot more but it is that duty of society to do this.
Many people feel that its threat stops serious crimes. But we can see the countries which have legalized this strategy too have not achieved any improvement in the rate of decrement of crimes. Later they abolished the system of capital punishment may be cheaper and keep the prisons manageable. But we cannot exceed our sense of humanity and selfish to the extent.

So, in conclusion, capital punishment is not good at all as there are other less barbaric alternatives. Giving capital punishment is against the human rights. The most precious possession of man is his own life it is not good to take away what he cannot give. So such barbaric punishment is needed to be abolished from all over the world.
