A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE

This proverb means that, if a piece of cloth is torn at a point, it should be stitched at once. If not, the hole gets wider and wider and it needs more stitches and more labour. The idea of these proverbs is that a small piece of work done now may save a lot of work later. If we do not do our work at time, it becomes problematic and we should bear a great loss. The proverb "Who repairs his gutters, repairs his whole hence", has the same idea of the given proverb. We should correct our mistakes in time so as to get rid of great loss.

This proverb is applicable in all the spheres of life. Whatever the things we have to do in time, we should act with foresight and sagacity. If a man falls ill, he should take medicine without delay. Thus, the proverb means to say that our life will be happy and successful if we correct out mistakes in time.
